The wines on this list have been enjoyed and selected by the owners of Fordoun. A couple of the wines have not been Platter tasted or star rated, so we have not printed star ratings against any of the wines.  You are just going to have to trust what we believe to be taste and price value throughout the selection.


White Wines

Chenin Blanc

Ken Forrester Old Vines Reserve – 2017 R240.00

Harmonious balance between fruit and delicate oak / vanilla flavours      


Survivor – 2017 R220.00

Ripe and crunchy golden delicious apple & honeyed notes. Rich and smooth texture from oak fermenting sync with opulent fruit.


Dewaldt Heyns “ Weathered Hands” R300.00

From 40 year old Swartland bush vines on weathered granite soils. Sumptuous and refined.  Perfumed with big, rich structure, but also quickened by minerality


Kaapzicht – 2017 R110.00

Ripe quince, pineapple and stone fruit with some interesting savoury undertones. Lightly textured palate, with a hint of sweetness and balancing crunchy acids, results in a brisk finish.





Abingdon Viognier – 2015 R405.00

Produced by our local Abingdon Estate, this challenging grape variety has improved consistently over the last 7 years as the vines have matured. Lightly wooded. A delightful bouquet delivering through to apricot and peach. Asparagus. Typical Viognier spiciness.

Sauvignon Blanc

Waterford Elgin – 2017 R240.00

A strict selection of Elgin’s best quality vineyards. A very focused style of Sauvignon blanc showing fresh granadilla and green apple fruit, with underlying chalk and slate notes confirming the Elgin origin of the grapes.

The palate is finely textured with crisp fruit.


The Berrio – 2017 R210.00

A beautiful combination of passion fruit and lemongrass aromas.  A sensational, creamy mouthfeel with a crisp finish on the palate


Cederberg – 2017 R240.00

Aromas of gooseberries, guava and lemon-zest with hints of asparagus and green fig. A refreshing, crisp acidity finishes off the initial sensation of creaminess on the mid-palate.

Cederberg Mountains

First Sighting – 2017 R175.00

A wonderfully refreshing wine with a tropical and citrus fruit nose, a full crisp palate and typically expressive notes of buchu and minerality.


Thelema Sutherland – 2015 R175.00

Juicy melon and mineral flavours.  The wine is fragrant and fruity with a dry finish


Waterford Pecan Stream – 2017 R155.00
A tropical style Sauvignon blanc, shaped around aromas such as granadilla (Elgin), pear and apple (Stellenbosch) with hints of peach and gooseberry (Paarl).  



Springfield Wild Yeast Chardonnay – 2016 R300.00

Unwooded, fermented with native yeast present in the vineyard, abounds with flavours of pineapple and pear drops. Deliciously complex in style!


Snow Mountain – 2017 R200.00

This classically styled wine expresses beautiful aromas of fresh citrus. The palate boasts a luxurious texture complimenting lemon  & lime flavours followed by  buttery  oak characteristics on the mid palate. The sharp mineral edge keeps the wine’s profile focussed and well defined. An elegant and classical example of Chardonnay


Hartenberg – 2016 R245.00

Fresh lemon and lime followed by a creamy nuttiness on the nose. This wine has a complex structure with a vibrant crisp palate following into an elegant oak finish.


Newton Johnson Felicite – 2017 R130.00

Succulent aromas of white peach and a steely citrus edge. Clean and lush texture in the mouth with a tangy citrus finish.  (Unwooded)

Blended Whites

Hughes Family Vineyards “Nativo White”  – R300.00

Viognier 75% Chenin Blanc 15% Roussanne 5% Grenache Blanc 5% . This elegant Swartland white blend is naturally made. Barrel fermented with subtle aromas of apricots, lime, pineapple and oak nuances. Fresh, yet bold with lingering minerality.


Newton Johnson “Resonance” – 2017 R325.00

Stony and linear, gleaming from a vintage of energetic white wines. Lifted aromas of white flowers and mealy pollen, deepening to honeyed tangerine. Generous and slightly grippy texture, with clean acidity and grape tannin holding the flavour long in to the finish.

Stellenbosch Hills – 2014 R240.00

Riesling-led blend offers near perfect fruit, predominantly mango, apricot and a hint of vanilla. Beautifully balanced. We think it’s great value.

Walker Bay

Saronsberg Artspace White – 2017 R115.00

The nose reveals a melange of tropical flavours, delicate floral and herbal notes. The palate reveals a balanced wine with a layered fruit complexity that lingers, ending in a fresh mineral finish. Chenin with a touch of sauvignon blanc.


The Winecellar Midlands White R105.00

Sarah Adam from our local Winecellar in Rosetta makes the pilgrimage to the Cape each year where she sources grapes and produces her own refreshing and easy drinking white. Tin peaches on the nose, tropical fruit on the palette with roundness from 2 weeks wood chips in tank.

Always noteworthy for varietal elegance & refinement. Lovely aromatics and, floral & spice, racy acidity offset by a dab of sweetness, adding to the appeal




Blanc de Noir / Rosé

Waterford Rose-Mary – 2017 R210.00

One can ‘sense’ the love in this rose’. Well integrated acid leads to an elegantly tangy textured mouth-feel, with a characteristic dry finish and low alcohol content.  Grenache based


Grangehurst Cape Rosé Blend – 2015 R155.00

A dry rosé blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Merlot, Chenin Blanc and Shiraz. Refreshing, easy drinking wine with some tannin to reflect a slight red wine character.


Gabrielskloof Rosebud – 2017 R180.00

Flavours of white melon, fragrant rose and hints of strawberry and papaya are prominent, with spicy red fruit in the background. Complex but infinitely drinkable

Bot River

Three Peaks Rosé – 2017 R100.00

Enticing delicate pink with red berry, candy floss and pomegranate upfront on the nose with subtle floral backing. Young strawberry, blackcurrant on the mid palate with sweet fruit on a dry well structured finish.




Red Wine


Laaibach – 2016 R275.00

Dark deep colour. Good nose with some bitter chocolate, meat and hints of blackberries. Medium bodied with good tannin structure to support an array of flavours.


De Grendel Merlot – 2016 R280.00

Full-bodied, filled with complex Christmas cake flavours.  Mulberry, raspberry and blackberry fruit accompanied by liquorice and mocha flavours carry through on the palate.  Well supported by firm French oak tannins


Dieu Donne – 2016 R260.00

A full bodied Merlot with minerality, dark berry fruit flavours with a soft broad tannin structure.




Pinot Noir

Oak Valley “Sounds of Silence” – 2015 R270.00

Sweet cherry, violet and rose petal aromas. The palate displays an abundance of fresh cranberry and ripe cherry. These bright red berry characters are offset by a beautiful acidity resulting in excellent freshness.

Full-bodied with blackberry and ripe plum aromas – mouth filling hints of chocolate and vanilla on the finish. Elegant and gentle tannins.


Dewaldt Heyns “Weathered Hands” – 2013 R410.00

Made with Swartland grapes and vines in excess of 4o years old. Juicy with concentrated red fruits and traces of smoke and excellent integration between fruit and wood with a lingering aftertaste.





Steenberg – 2015 R490.00

From Stenberg’s Ultra Premium range of wines comes this Italian classic varietal. Pioneer planting in South Africa at Steenberg, showing expansive sour cherry & strawberry fruit offset by dry, grippy tannin and tangy acidity.




Cabernet Sauvignon

Thelema – 2013 R485.00

Complex and stylish. This wine is bone dry, yet exhibits a lovely sweet fruit character on the palate, with a lovely long finish.


Rustenberg – 2016 R220.00

The wine shows typical Cabernet Sauvignon flavour and aroma profiles of dark berries and tobacco with a well-structured and lengthy palate.


Warwick The First Lady – 2015 R200.00

The bouquet reveals red berries, black currants, and pleasant herbal characters. Smooth, ripe, round tannins make it easy to drink while still retaining good structure.


Glenelly Glass Collection – 2014 R195.00

Complex nose with flavours of cassis, black currant, cherry with a touch of spice and perfume. The wine has good tannin structure, perfect balance and length, with flavours of cedar, cherry and black currant on the palate





Mount Vernon Malbec – 2013 R440.00

Dark, magenta core with wide, bright rim. Very enticing ripe berry nose packed with mulberry and blackberry followed by attractive earthy and oaky notes.  Deep, rich and full in the mouth where chocolate and ripe plum add to the complexity of ever developing flavours




Shiraz / Syrah

Kevin Arnold Shiraz  – 2013 R510.00

Seamless and full bodied. One of our favourites for special occasions. Classic dry tannins countering the voluptuous nature of a Stellenbosch Shiraz.


Tamboerskloof – 2013 R380.00

Rich full entry on the palate with heaps of berry fruit flavours. Good complexity and integration of all flavours allowing fine elegant tannins to round off the wine.


Hartenberg – 2014 R350.00

Saturated deep black-red colour with elegant aromas of spices, violets and berries. The palate is rich and silky with soft ripe tannins that give structure.


The Berrio – 2014 R310.00

Full-bodied with a silky smooth mouthfeel and abundant flavours of red fruit and a lingering, spicy finish.


Saronsberg Provenance – 2015 R235.00

The soft textured tannins, full-bodied mouth-feel and silken finish lends itself as a platform to heady mix of red berry and black fruit flavours combined with floral notes and fynbos nuances.

Dark and intensely structured, ripe blackcurrant, sweet tobacco, leathery prune flavours. Full bodied, with a long finish.





Painted Wolf Lycaon – 2013 R335.00

A lovely rich mélange of sweet and crunchy red berry fruit and subtle pepper spice flavours and aromas harmonized with sweet oak. This is a very elegant wine with a gorgeous silky palate with a fresh bright finish.


Rustenberg – 2016 R220.00

In its youth the wine exhibits very attractive red fruit flavours, such as strawberry and cherry, along with a wonderful pepper spice. As the wine ages it will reveal a more savoury fruit profile.




Blended Reds

Grangehurst Nikela – 2007 R485.00

The investment in age makes this wine stand apart. Ripe red berry fruit, slightly nutty and smoky aromas and flavours; a full-bodied wine with ripe tannins and lingering finish.

From the Hughes Family Vineyard in Swartland. Sumptuous. A wild, heady maverick compendium of Shiraz, Mouvedre, Grenache &Pinotage. Rich yet light of foot, the very essence of Swartland. Warm mouth feel and silky finish of light tannins

Dark ruby red. A burst of ripe red fruits with hints of smokiness and vanilla. Long finish, supported by dark berries and a hint of caramel


Saronsberg Seismic Rooi – 2014 R285.00

Dark in colour with flavours of cassis, red berry and integrated oak. The tannins are firm and well balanced with a full-bodied elegant finish.

Waterford Pecan Stream Pebblehill – 2014 R170.00

Shiraz, Mouvedre, Tempranillo, Sangiovese & Merlot. A unique blend in a class of its own with the use of Italian & Spanish varietals. Shiraz lead, the wine shows off forward fruit aromatics of violet, cherries & liquorice accompanied by notes of classical cigar box spice.

The wine shows upfront aromas of pineapple, citrus, apricots and a touch of honey and subtle floral notes. The palate is lush with the perfect balance of sweetness and fresh acidity.


Waterford Heatherleigh Family Reserve  – 2014 R450.00

Complex flavour profile with a distinct elegance and a drier finish than most sweet wines. Great mouth-feel when served well chilled.




South African “Methode Cap Classique”

Cederberg MCC R410.00

 Made in the traditional French method of allowing a second fermentation to take place in the bottle. The extended period on lees, allowed time to add to the creamy complexity of this sparkling wine. It resulted in a bouquet of baked brioche, apples with fresh lemon and grapefruit aromas, enticing your senses.

The mousse is conspicuous on first tasting. Subtle toasted biscuit and fresh apple flavours are on the palate with a creamy mouth feel  from lees contact. The finish is lengthy, dry and graceful.

Hints of lime are accompanied by aromas of toasted bread and hazelnut. The palate is creamy round and textured with an explosive acidity and lasting, elegant finish.
